How to Bid

When you find something at auction that you would like to purchase you must place a bid on that item. Each item at auction has a lot number that is listed on a tag attached to the item and is used as the item's reference number. The best rule of thumb is to bid the maximum amount that you would be willing to pay for that item; remember to factor in tax and our buyers premium, which is 18% for our Metro auctions and 20% for our Capital Collections auctions (you can save 2% by paying cash or check). It never hurts to place a bid even if you think you are under bidding; you might get lucky!

If you want an estimate on how much we think the item will sell for or more details, feel free to contact us at megan@weschlers.com

There are numerous ways to bid, depending whether or not you can attend auction and what type of auction you are bidding at. For our Metro auctions we only do live in-person bidding and absentee bidding, for our Capital Collections auctions we accept all types.

In-Person Live Bidding: register for a bidder number by coming to our offices on the 3rd floor, you will be given a card with your bidder number on it that you use to indicate to the auctioneer that you are placing a bid. Once your lot (item you are bidding on) comes up, raise your bid card to indicate that you are placing a bid for the amount the auctioneer asks for.

Absentee Bidding: leave a maximum bid for an item using its lot number either by emailing or calling us. Make sure to have the item's lot number, your maximum bid, a brief description of the item, your address and phone number, and credit card information (your card will not be charged automatically).

Telephone Bidding: live bid in the comfort of your home or office. We will call you a few lots before your items comes up and will give you a play-by-play of what is happening on the auction floor. This method gives you more freedom than absentee bidding, because you can follow along with the auction! To sign up for a telephone bidding you can call or email us. You must provide us with the lot number, a brief description of the item, your phone number, and credit card information (your card will not be charged automatically).

Online Bidding: live bid in the comfort of your home or office online. Get live-auction streaming on your computer through Invaluable and place bids in real time. Sign up at www.invaluableauctions.com
